Many of the interlaboratory comparisons are open to all laboratories that wish to participate but some are restricted. Proficiency test are normally carried out only on request of another Commission department or agency. Some comparisons are run to certify reference materials and validation studies are organised regularly to validate analysis methods.

FAPAS^® is part of The Food and Environment Research Agency, an executive agency of the UK Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The extensive knowledge and excellent facilities at Fera have enabled us to become world leaders in our field. Our proficiency tests are open to both government and non-government laboratories.

IMEP provides support to EU policies and the chemical measurement system of the enlarged EU assisting in the development of the national measurement systems. The common goal is to prove the reliability of measurement results. All laboratories can participate in the regular IMEPs. The IMEP-100 series are interlaboratory comparisons organised on behalf of the Community Reference Laboratory for Heavy Metals in Feed and Food and are open for nominated national reference laboratories ony.

Regular European Interlaboratory Measurement Evaluation Programme (REIMEP) was started by IRMM in 1982 for carrying out external control of the quality of the measurements of the nuclear fuel cycle materials. In REIMEP campaigns samples matching materials analysed routinely in the nuclear fuel cycle are sent to participating laboratories for measurements and to date 16 REIMEP campaigns have been organised, which involved safeguards laboratories throughout the world.

Wepal is a world-leading organiser of proficiency testing (PT) programs in the fields plants, soil, sediments and organic waste. We are organising this for over 50 years and currently have over 500 participants in these PT schemes in countries all over the world.

The international Circuits CALITAX – LABAQUA (known also as Interlaboratory Tests, Proficiency Testing Schemes, round robins, ringtests…) provides to the laboratories or organisations (chemical, microbiological, environmental testing…) an objective mean to assessing and demonstrating the reliability of tests results.

Bipea (Bureau InterProfessionnel d'Etude Analytique) is a non-profit making association. It was created in 1970, on initiative of the professional organizations of the fields of production, of storage and transformation of cereals and of manufacture of feed for animal. Bipea's missions are :

- Organizing interlaboratory comparisons tests to define the laboratories capacity.

- Assistance for laboratories to manage, maintain and improve their performances.

r-concept is an independent organisation that provides inter-laboratory tests for analytical laboratories. The inter-laboratory tests are designed to show how the results from an individual laboratory compare with those of other participants.
